Tennessee Titans are clicking in the passing game.
chris Johnson will continue his quest for 2000+ yards tonight as the rest of the Titans continue their quest to just win games.
The Titans hope to continue their impressive winning ways on the road. It will be a tough(ish) task against the Jaguars, who seem to be playing a bit above their heads so far in 2010. Add to that the fact that the Texans and Colts both won on Sunday, and this is suddenly a very important game. I’ve got the feeling we’ll be saying that a lot about the 2010 schedule, the way the division seems to be shaking out.
ON OFFENSE
Hm, let’s see if we can figure out the mystery. The Titans need to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage. They have to make sure Vince Young isn’t put in a position to have to win the game for them. The Titans have had more offensive line issues than expected this season, and it has certainly affected Chris Johnson’s production. The Jaguars are decent against the run, and terrible against the pass – but that shouldn’t change Tennessee’s game plan. The Titans are most successful when they do what they do best, despite the strengths of the other team’s defense.
ON DEFENSE
Obviously, every defensive game plan against the Jaguars starts with stopping Maurice Jones-Drew. That’s a given. The Titans should continue to get solid pressure on the quarterback this week. The Jags have only given up 12 sacks this season, but the Titans matchup well against their tackles… which isn’t saying much – the Titans defensive line matches up well against anyone. Control MJD and force David Garrard to beat you. That should be the Titans’ game plan, and it’s pretty much the blueprint for any team who plays Jacksonville.
The Titans don’t do anything fancy. They are simple on offense and defense. It just comes down to matchups, and on paper – the Titans should win this game with relative ease. Of course, you can’t count on things like the Monday Night factor… but the way the Titans have been playing with such an edge on the road should make up for any boost the Jags might get from the MNF atmosphere.
GAME PREDICTION
I see the Titans jumping up early an cruising to a win. I just don’t think the Jaguars are that good of a team, despite their winning record. The Titans just have to do what they do. If the game plan unravels and the Titans have to rely on Vince to win the game, it could be a problem. It’s not that Vince can’t win games on his own, it’s just that he’s at his best and most comfortable when the Titans are able to play their game and grind it
