Fire plays an important role in most forest ecosystems in Canada.The cities of Montreal and Ottawa in Canada, and Boston in the United States, were on alert Monday for the arrival of smoke from the Quebec wildfires.
Forest fires have burnt at least 352 square miles in Quebec. Lightning strikes have caused more than 50 fires in the Canadian province. At least seven of them are still out of control.
