This Vocabulary of Alliteration is a new aid in writing poems and songs, and in the study of phonetic or phonemic syllable divisions. Alliteration is one of several aural devices in literature making use of the repetition of single sounds or groups of sounds. It is quite often believed to be nothing else than the repetition of word-initial sounds, especially consonants. For such rough and ready alliteration a special dictionary would hardly be needed.

NATE KAEDING GOAL WITH THE BEST GAME.

Nate kaeding field goal accuracy during the regular season has been right up there with the best in the game, but the Chargers place-kicker still agonizes over some costly misses in the playoffs, most recently last season.

His anguish in the aftermath of going 0-for-3 in the Chargers' 17-14 postseason loss last January to the underdog New York Jetswas palpable and fueled his decision to consult with a sports psychologist. He told King he's visited with the psychologist about six times.

In the loss to the Jets, Kaeding missed wide left from 36 yards out and was short with a 57-yard kick just prior to intermission, before wrenching his final try from 40 yards away wide right. Kaeding told King that he was counseled to "keep the game in perspective. Don't make it bigger than it is. There's going to be peaks and valleys and just accept them."

Whether the advice has helped toughen his mental approach and put the misses behind him remains to be seen.

That Kaeding has struggled in the postseason is surprising when considering his regular season numbers. He has made 150 of 172 field goal attempts during the regular season for a conversion rate of 87 percent but in the playoffs he's 8 of 15, a conversion rate of 53 percent.

Other troubling playoff episodes include a missed 40-yard field goal in overtime in San Diego's 2004 wild-card loss, also to the Jets, and missed 45- and 48-yarders during the 2007 playoffs.

But it's the most recent misses that stick out in Kaeding's mind and test the patience of Chargers' management and fans. Kaeding told King that he struggled to shake off the first miss and that carried over into his other two kicks, especially the final one, which he tried to kick directionally rather than swinging his leg through the ball and driving it naturally.

Kaeding, though, should keep his chin up. His kicking after all, helped the Chargers reach the playoffs in the first place and he can do so again. And once there, redemption is just a clutch playoff field goal away.

In order to understand the history of pumpkin carving, we need to first look at the history of Halloween itself.

Halloween is based an an biggest and most significant ancient Celtic Holiday called Samhain (Sah-ween), meaning Summer's end. The holiday was a night to remember and honor those that have passed away and was celebrated on the night with the least amount of light, October 31st, this day also marks the beginning of Winter in the Celtic calendar. Celtics beleived that this was the time of the year when the souls of loved ones who died that year would then travel to the underworld. Becasue of this, it was believed that Samhain was the time when ghosts would be present most in their world.

The Celtics used to carve gourds and turnips and set them on in their windows or on their porches to welcome their dead loved ones and act as protection against evil ghosts. Instead of the candles used today, burning lumps of coal were used to light the jack-o-lanterns.

With the spread of Christianity and a desire to wipe out what they considered to be "pagan" practicies and holidays, these holidays began to be usurped and used by christians as their own and through this process over time the Halloween as we know it today was born.

Pumpkins were not available in the eastern world, and after the settlers arived in America, they found the large sized native pumpkins made for better jack-o-lanterns. This is why today in America we carve pumpkins.

Chargers TE Antonio Gates did not practice one time this week while he battles a toe injury. He discussed it cautiously, saying he wouldn’t know if the nagging ailment would allow him to perform against the Patriots until today. The star pass-catcher is officially questionable.

Then today, a report by ESPN on its early show described Gates’ injury as something that could slow him down all season. It indicated Gates knows he shouldn’t play, but that he’ll likely try, anyway. Of course, this wouldn’t be the first time Gates plays without practicing.Anthony Gonzalez reportedly aggravated his high ankle sprain. The guy just can't stay on the field -- he's Mr. Glass. Blair White now has no competition for the No. 3 WR job while Austin Collie is out.

Kenny Britt is going to be active, but won't start. I'm not sure if that's because of the fight he got in, or simply because Justin Gage (hamstring) is healthy. Either way, I'm benching Britt in all spots.
Here's a BOMBSHELL. FOX's Jay Glazer is reporting that Pierre Thomas is in coach Sean Payton's doghouse and may be a healthy scratch even when active. WOW. Not sure I'm buying that, but Chris Ivory's stock is on the rise big time either way. We'll be looking for more details on this. some big news on Antonio Gates. The toe he has injured right now is the same one that he had surgery on in 2008. Yikes. He also says Gates is very iffy for today. Double Injury Blow For Australia.

Australia have suffered a double injury blow ahead of Saturday's first International Rules Test against Ireland.

David Wojcinski and Travis Varcoe both picked up injuries during Wednesday's warm-up game against a Cork colleges selection.

Wojcinkski injured his right ankle, while Varcoe damaged a shoulder in the 105-12 win over the students at Pairc Ui Rinn.

Both are expected to miss the game as they undergo treatment in an effort to be ready for the final Test at Croke Park on October 30.

He took so many big shots that I lost count. The man is a warrior and if you didn't respect him prior, you have to now. Dos Santos has very fast hands for a HW in my opinion. It seems as if no one is able to see that right uppercut because of how fast he throws it and the angles he is able to throw it from. I was really impressed by both of the fighters will and determination. They were both tested like neither had been tested before and "Cigano" prevailed. I'm looking forward to watching both guys fight again.
